The Zambia national public health institute has observed that the country may not attain 70% vaccination against COVID-19 by June 2022.

Speaking during the virtual media Science Cafe meeting, ZNPHI infectious diseases specialist Paul Zulu says people are still shunning away from vaccination.

He has urged the media to go allout in sensitizing the population on the need for them to get vaccinated.

He said the country has so far only vaccinated only 40% of the population against the virus which is not enough.

He said the country needs to come to a point at which COVID-19 is under control and will be considered endemic and is here to stay.

“We are very hesitant to talk about COVID as if it has gone away because it keep going and coming in different waves so we need to come to a point and we all agree that COVID is now under control, we will now define it as endemic meaning a disease that is here to stay,” Mr Zulu said.
