A civil society organization in Solwezi says it is pleased with the approval of the motion in Parliament on the introduction of lifestyle audit.
Before Parliament went on recess, it approved the motion which was moved by United Party for Nation Development (UPND) Mwembeshi Member of Parliament Machila Jamba urging government to introduce a law on lifestyle audit.
Kwatu Voice coordinator Oliver Chilefu said in an interview that the move will make individuals be audited and determine whether they are worth or not.
Mr. Chilefu said with better implementation, it will help in reducing the abuse of public resources which he said is currently rampant in the country.
“It is a very good move that Parliament approved the motion. And we would like to commend the Member of Parliament that moved the motion,” said Mr. Chilefu.
He has however indicated that there is need to take precautionary measures by ensuring that the same law does not work or used against individuals with intentions to vie for certain positions.
He said this is because the law may be used to bar such individuals especially those with political ambitions.
“But overall, if passed into law, it will be a good piece of legislation for the country though we need to put in place mechanisms that will avert some of the lacunas that might contradict the good intentions of the law in future,” he said.
He is hopeful that the law will be string enough compared to the piece of legislation on declaration of assets which he said is a bit weak as most individuals do not declare their assets.
