Chiefs in Southern Province say they want Itezhi-tezhi and Chirundu to be part of Southern Province once again.

The traditional leaders have since written to President Hakainde Hichilema to consider realigning the two districts to the Province.

According to a communique, 17 chiefs met in Livingstone on October 14th, 2021 and resolved that the two districts be brought back to the province because they share the same developmental challenges with 13 other districts that remained in the province.

Chief Chongo of Moonze District said the chiefs resolved that the districts be brought back to the province because they share same cultural beliefs with the rest of the chiefs in Southern Province.

Meanwhile, Chief Chikanta of Kalomo District says initially, the chiefs did not agree with the moving of the two districts to Lusaka and Central Provinces by late president Michael Sata who moved the two districts from Southern Province.
