Government’s directive to ban roadblocks has been welcomed by various stakeholders.

Motorists who spoke to New Zambia are happy that the mounting of road blocks became a money making venture by the police as opposed to providing the expected services.

“We are very thankful for the directive because it will save us time and money, because as you know, roadblocks at certain places became unnecessary and inconvenienced us a lot” Keagan Lungu said in a random interview.

Others feel the move will also help to decongest some roads which the many road blocks used to contribute to slow traffic flow.

“You can’t have police all over even at times when you are heading for work. How can you be productive when a lot of hours are lost at checkpoints to negotiate with the police” Brenda Zulu also observed.

Meanwhile, some concerned citizens have called on motorists to abide by the law in order to avoid compromising road safety in the absence of law enforcers.

They feel the absence of the police or the stopping of road, blocks in as much as it is welcomed, it requires that people exercise self-discipline in order to promote road safety.
