Zambian veteran hip hop artiste Masautso Nkoma famously known as Ruff Kid hopes his new song featuring South African artist Emtee will help put Zambia on the map musically because going international has always been his goal. Speaking in an exclusive interview with New Zambia, the artist also referred to as Kan’gono (the small one) said he has sacrificed a little more on his new song called ‘family’ by featuring a foreign artist to spread his influence outside Zambia.
“When you stay in the game for a long time people get fed up of you ( bama tinka),” he said.
“So I have to sacrifice a little more, coz I know what I have (musically) the world hasn’t even seen yet. Zambians have seen it but you know they are used to it, so they can’t really appreciate it.
So let at least, South Africans and the rest of the guys see what God put in us. Then yah, Zambia will be on the map.”
The rapper decided to call his song ‘Banja(Family)’ saying because he is doing it for Zambia.
“I’m doing it for the country to be on the map. That’s what the song is really talking about, in whatever we do when we win, everyone wins.”
‘Family’ is set in the new hip hop tone with influences from most successful hip hop songs from America.
Ruff Kid is emphasizing on the need of keeping in touch with the family (Banja) and doing everything for family. He combines very well with Emtee who is currently one of the hottest artists in South Africa. The song is available on exclusive music online platforms.
