A private company Bridge Consortium has commenced feasibility studies for the construction of a one border post and the upgrade of the Kakoma – Kambimba road in Mwinilunga District of North Western Province.

The project will be undertaken under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model with the Zambian Government.

This came to light when the company Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Gayous Kambita paid a courtesy call on acting Mwinilunga district commissioner Kelvin Ndandanda.

Mr. Kambita disclosed that the construction works are expected to commence next year once all the formalities are done completed.

He said the project which is aimed at linking Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo and that once completed will be of economic value to both countries.

“We have decided to under this project because of the economic potential of the border and it will be undertaken under the public private partnership (PPP),” said Mr. Kambita.

And Mr. Ndandanda said the district administration is happy that the project which is a fruit of the Expo North West Zambia 2019 is now coming to fruition adding that the district has been grappling to have access to Kambimba border post due to the deplorable state of the road.

He revealed that during the expo, a lot of companies expressed interest in establishing manufacturing, agro, and agro processing companies in the area but that they failed, due to the state of the road.

“But with the commencement of this project, am sure those companies that showed interest in the area will start establishing their base which at the end of the day will uplift the living standards of our people,” he said.

He said it is government’s desire to have the area opened so that people can start trading their goods and services into DRC.
