Police in Ikelenge district have arrested two brothers for allegedly assaulting a medical doctor of Kalene Mission Hospital.

North Western Province Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr. Fred Mulenga confirmed the incident in a statement and identified the suspects as Fordson Saji and Binwell Saji aged 45 and 57 years respectively and the victim as Dr. Chola Kafwimbi.

Dr. Mulenga said the incident happened on Tuesday when suspects pounced on Dr. Kafwimbi after the death of their biological brother Amon Saji who was a kidney patient and was admitted at the health facility for treatment and Dr. Kafwimbi was the attending doctor.

“But after the patient passed on, relatives attributed his death to negligence by the doctor and hence pouncing on him which resulted into assault,” disclosed Dr. Mulenga.

He further disclosed that Dr. Kafwimbi sustained a painful jaw and general body pains as fists were allegedly used to inflict the injuries.

Dr. Kafwimbi was fortunately rescued by some male nurses, who witnessed the incident.

“The Two suspects have since been charged and arrested for the subject offence awaiting court appearance,” he said.

Meanwhile, acting Ikelenge District Commissioner, Mwangala Mukela has assured management and staff at the health facility of safety, saying the local administration would look into their grievances and ensure they were protected.

His comment follows the protest which was staged by other workers at the facility following the attack on Dr. Kafwimbi.

Mr. Mukela explained that the protesting health workers complained of continued attacks by members of the community.
