COPPER Queens coach Bruce Mwape has said the team will be cautious as they take on Malawi in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in that country on Wednesday.

Zambia are aiming to qualify to the biggest tournament in Women’s football on the continent which will staged in Morocco next year.

Mwape said in an interview from Malawi that the team is determined to face the Scorchers in their backyard but they will do so with caution.

“We will try to be cautious in the first half and see their tactics. If we see that we can open up we will try and give instructions. If all goes well we will try to fight for an early goal so that we finish the game in Malawi,” Mwape said.

Mwape said if the team makes it to the AfCON, the achievement will encourage a lot of upcoming players.

“It will be the second time that we make it, the ones that are coming behind will start fighting for positions in the team, we are trying to create competition in the team,” Mwape said.

Mwape said the young players in the team are faring well.

And defender Magret Belemu said the players are looking forward to playing the match.

“We are ready, tomorrow’s game is a game that we need to win and take seriously because we need go home with good result. We need to get the three points,” Belemu said.

Belemu said Malawi is a strong team.

And striker Ochumba Lubanji said the team is in good shape.

“Everyone is pushing, the morale is high and we want to make sure that we carry the day. Malawi have improved and are a team so it will not an easy game for us.

“Our target is to qualify to the Africa Cup, win the title and make it to the World Cup, the senior level we have not been to the World Cup so that is our aim,” she said.
