CCZ President Rev Sairos Phaika said in an interview that many people have been bruised in one way or another hence the need for reconciliation towards one another.
“There is a lot of pain in a lot of people, and therefore the need for reconciliation cannot be over emphasised. And that is why as an organisation, we are saying this day should be observed,” he said.
He stated that the calls by some sections of society to have the day of prayer and fasting removed from the national calendar should not be entertained.
He said Zambia being a Christian nation should continue upholding and observing such a day without fail.
He has asked the politicians to be tolerant towards each other and avoid hate speech.
“Usually, politicians are the ones that are always at the center of confusion in the country by pointing fingers at each other, we are therefore appealing to them to be tolerant towards one another,” he said.
He has further asked politicians to embrace the church as it is the only institution that reconciles and brings politicians together.
He said the church should not just be remembered when there is serious friction amongst politicians.
He has since appealed to all well meaning Zambians to turn in large numbers and attend the day of national reconciliation, prayer and fasting.
On Monday 18 October, Zambia will the holding national prayers.
