THE Chess Federation of Zambia (CFZ)’s annual general meeting that as set to take place this weekend has been moved to next month following unforeseen circumstances.
CFZ general secretary Boyd Nsakanya has confirmed in a statement that the event has been moved to November 28 but the agenda remains the same.
The federation was expected to be held this Saturday.
“Article 26.1 states that; “No business shall be transacted at any General Meeting unless a quorum is present at the time when the meeting proceeds to business. A quorum for General Meetings shall be one half (1/2) of Zones and Clubs represented by their Delegates.
“Only 3 Zones are fully paid up members of the Federation. A reminder was sent to Zones in arrears to fully settle the outstanding affiliation fees before 30th September, 2021. Nskanya stated “Six Zones are yet to have their EAGM before we can have our 2021 AGM. Notice was sent to the Zones concerned and a deadline was set to which on one Zone has indicated that they will have their EAGM on the 16th October, 2021. The EAGM are overdue by one year for the affected Zones.”
He said, Article 25 states that: Members entitled to vote may submit notices of motion for inclusion as special business at a General Meeting. All notices of motion must be submitted in writing to the Executive Committee not less than thirty (30) days (excluding receiving date and meeting date) prior to the General Meeting.
“Only 2 Zones submitted the Notices of Motions to be discussed during the AGM. Though this is not cardinal, the Executive feels that each Zone should have at least made an effort in submitting the motions as we have a lot of lacunas in the Constitution.
“The above reasons have made the Executive to postpone the 2021 AGM to a later date to be announced soon but before 28th November, 2021,” he said.
