SENIOR Chief Sekute of Kazungula district in Southern Province has appealed to investigative wings to probe the disbursement of Social Cash Transfer funds in his chiefdom.

The traditional leader said there was need for the New Dawn Government to carry out a thorough audit of the Social Cash Transfer funds in his chiefdom as three quarters of the beneficiaries were ineligible for the programme.

Chief Sekute explained that most beneficiaries were faking deaths of the spouses in a bid to benefit from the programme thereby denying the most viable and vulnerable people from benefiting from the funds.

Speaking through his senior headman Patrick Sumali said he was displeased with the manner employed by the previous regime in disbursing the funds and further implored the Ministry of Community Development and Social services to

“The Social Cash Transfer programme in my chiefdom has not been reaching the intended beneficiaries, three quarters of individuals benefiting do not qualify for the programme they are not vulnerable so Government should quickly move in and conduct a thorough audit,” chief Sekute said.

The traditional leader said most vulnerable people of Kazungula district remained destitute due to political interference into the program that resulted in giving the wrong beneficiaries who were allegedly inclined to the previous administration.

And Chief Sekute urged the Government to consider constructing more schools in his chiefdom to shorten the distance pupils covered to have access to education.

He said due to long distances, most pupils, especially a girl child, opted to drop out of school to get married or engage in other illicit activities such as alcohol and drug abuse.

Chief Sekute said pupils were also losing concentration in class due to the five kilometer stretch they covered to reach their schools.
