NEW LOOK TEAM, SAME AMBITION

Copper Queens Coach Bruce Mwape says his technical bench is looking to give chance to new players at the 2021 COSAFA women’s Championship to be staged in South Africa this month.

Zambia will play the COSAFA this month and have been drawn against Uganda, eSwatini and Namibia for the biggest women’s tournament in the region.

Mwape said in an interview on Tuesday that the team will take a new shape from the team that played at the Olympics as the coaches want to give the players exposure.

“We are looking at new faces that we are planning to give a chance for the AfCON qualifying games which are coming next month.

“I think I will be able to give more information of how the players are training and the ones that look to make it to the final squad,” he said.

He said Zambia’s targets remain unchanged regardless of the team he will assemble.

“With or without regular players, our target will be the same. We cannot go to a tournament to add numbers. We want to go there and compete,” Mwape said after a training session at the Edwin Imboela stadium in Lusaka.

He said with the team having only been in Camp for three days the technical bench is still trying to assess players that will make the final squad ahead of the COSAFA Championship that kicks off on the 28th of September to the 9th of October 2021.

The Zambia lost to host nation South Africa in the 2019 final and will have another shot this year with an opening match setting them against eSwatini on September 30.
