ZAMBIA’S Africa Women’s Cup of Nations qualifier got off to a shaky note after the team played to a 1 – all draw against Malawi on Wednesday.
Zambia are aiming to make a second Africa Cup of Nations appearance but the journey to that has not started well after they failed to beat Malawi in Lilongwe.
Bruce Mwape’s team were missing the services of skipper Barbara Banda but still managed to get the lead in the 20th minute when Grace Chanda scored from outside the box.
Before that goal, Zambia missed a penalty through Elizabeth Mupeso in the seventh minute.
Malawi managed to snatch a point in the 66th minute through Sabinah Thom.
Mwape said the team was wasteful.
“That is not the true reflection of the game, in the whole game we created a lot of chances. We could have gone at half time leading 3-0 the second half again we created a lot of chances we could have had six or seven goals.
“The finishing was poor, we should have scored more goals if we had patience,” Mwape said.
Zambia will face Malawi again on Tuesday.
