President Hakainde Hichilema says the UPND government will review the loan and bursary scheme in order to create opportunities for the vulnerable to equally get access to education.

President Hichilema says the scheme will ensure that there is equal access to education regardless of one’s social and economic standing in society.

Speaking when he gave his maiden speech during the opening of the first session of the 13th National Assembly, President Hichilema said the UPND will also review the curriculum in line with their development objectives.

He said under the new system, access to education will not only be for the rich, but will also give opportunities to children who are vulnerable but need education.

“My children do not need tax payer’s money to get educated, but the children of the vulnerable need that” the president said, with an assurance that under his government, the education sector will be restored to international standards.

He further said premium will be placed on research, science and technology while the education curriculum will be aligned to entrepreneurship so that opportunities are created for young people to be self-sustainable.
