A Taxi Driver of Mansa district has been gruesomely murdered by unknown assailants who booked him from Suburbs township on Sunday around 19: 00 hours, Luapula Province Police Commissioner Chilije Nyirenda has disclosed.
Mr. Nyirenda said Samson Makusa 42 went missing from home on Sunday evening after he received a phone call from his supposed clients to go and pick them up with his taxi- a Toyota sprinter of registration ALE 5379.
He said several attempts by the wife, Gloria Kaunda 33 to reach his husband to find out where he slept proved futile as his phone was switched off, a situation that prompted her to notify the police.
He said Police however received a call on Monday from Agness Chilufya 36 of Funga Funga village in Chief Mabumba’s area to the effect that she had found a body of an unknown person lying in her farm near an ant-hill and that acting on the information, a team of police officers rushed to the scene and found the body in said cassava field about 30 meters away from Chipota road.
“Mr Makusa’s body was found be-headed, it’s neck was completely severed by an unknown sharp object plus two cuts and two deep cuts on the chest were also discovered and traces of blood were also found from the above mentioned road up to were the body was dumped as well as a pair of brown leather slippers were found besides the road which are strongly believed to be his,” Mr. Nyirenda said.

He said the body was later identified by Mutanuka Mwanangombe 35 who was already at the scene. Mutanuka who is the deceased’s brother in-law later informed the deceased’s wife.

Mr. Nyirenda explained that the body was then deposited to Mansa General Hospital awaiting postmortem while investigations into the matter are still on-going and a man-hunt launched in order to bring the culprits to book. He further urged taxi drivers to take necessary precautions when booked by strange people by notifying their friends about their destinations.
