Senior Chief Tafuna of the Lungu people in Mpulungu district has charged that there are still some imposters who jump on the throne of traditional leadership after the death of the incumbent, thereby causing succession wrangles.
Speaking at the installation ceremony of the new Chief Mukupa Kaoma in Lunte district today, Chief Tafuna expressed sadness over succession wrangles in some chiefdoms.
Chief Tafuna said the traditional leadership does not want succession wrangles because this deters development in the respective areas.
Chief Tafuna said because of political interference, this has now become the order of the day.
He said it is saddening that every time the family tree on succession is followed, some people overlook the selected person and therefore, it is his prayer that no one will now rush to court following the installation of the new chief.
“We are always saddened in the sense that, in certain cases we still have imposters because when one chief dies, the other one jumps on the throne. We don’t want succession wrangles because they deter development” Chief Tafuna said.
He said as such, the traditional leadership wants to follow tradition just as it has been since time in memorial.
The Royal Lungu Chiefdom installed Joseph Kamana as Chief Mukupa Kaoma following the death of the former Chief Mukupa Kaoma in July last year, after serving the throne for a period of 5 years.
And speaking when he officiated the installation ceremony, Technology and Science Minister Felix Mutati said it was gratifying that the new chief had been installed.
Mr. Mutati said the New Dawn Government will not work in isolation as it’s desire is to work with chiefs in fostering development where it is needed.
The minister said government also wants to see to it that Lunte district administration is quickly setup because delays to have this in place will deprive the area opportunities of development and jobs creation.
And Mr. Mutati said he was happy that 227 teachers and 49 nurses were recruited in Lunte district alone in the recently conducted exercise by government which is what is needed for the development of people.
Meanwhile, Chief Mwamba of the Bemba people who represented Paramount Chief Chitimukulu said there is no opposition in traditional leadership hence, all the people should unite with the new chief.
Chief Mwamba said when the subjects oppose the traditional leader, they will not see development hence the need for all to unite.
And Chief Mwamba implored the newly installed chief to work closely with the government of the day in order to ensure development in the chiefdom as traditional leaders are non-partisan.
