Mines minister Paul Kabuswe has called for integrity in the mine value and supply chain in the country.

The minister states that the misconduct and lack of trust by the private sector in alarming.

He said a big monster has been created in the mine value and supply chain which has resulted into rampant corruption.

“What we want is integrity in the private sector, we want a corruption free private sector. We have been putting the blame on the investors yet it is us participants in the value and supply chain who are not being truthful in our dealings,” Mr. Kabuswe.

He disclosed that investors have started making barriers which he attributed to lack of integrity among the participants.

“As government, what we want is discipline on the side of the investors as well as us participating in the whole thing,” he said.

He said government wants to see order in the mining sector as well as mining value and supply chain so that people can see the benefit of having mines.

The minister was speaking when he called on North Western Province Minister Robert Lihefu.

And Mr. Lihefu said the people in the region are very expectant from the New Dawn government in terms of development.

He said despite playing host to three mines, the region is still lagging behind in terms infrastructure development.

“And recently, another mine, Kansenseli mine was opened in Mwinilunga though the local people feel left out,” he said.

He asked the mines minister to sort out the squabbles at Kansenseli so that people see its benefit.
