Former National Democratic Congress -NDC- leader Chishimba Kambwili has been acquitted by the Lusaka Magistrate Court.
This is in a matter where he was charged of being in possession of property and money suspected to be proceeds of crime.
Dr. Kambwili was facing 39 counts of being in possession of properties reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime and was also slapped with charges of uttering false document.
Lusaka High Court Judge Mwaka Mikalile acquitted Dr. Kambwili on account that the prosecution has failed to prove the case.
And speaking shortly after being acquitted, Dr. Kambwili thanked his lawyers who stood by him even when he could not meet his legal fees.
Dr. Kambwili said he will need to sit down with his legal team, after being asked on whether he would seek counter claims for damages.
‘But for now, we can only thank God for this judgement’ Dr. Kambwili told journalists.
