The Southern African Centre for the Constructive Resolutions of Disputes (SACOORD) has commended republican President Hakainde Hichilema’s strong stance, commitment and assurance to uphold and respect all human rights.
President Hichilema, before and during his swearing-in inaugural speech, emphasized the need for Zambia to turn a new page where upholding and respect for human right is concerned.
The head of state further echoed similar sentiments when he swore in inspector general of police to maintain law and order while upholding and respecting people’s rights.
SACCORD Executive Director Boniface Cheembe has however called for the protection and upholding of the rights for those that lost in the just ended general elections.
He has observed with concern the attacks on those that lost and said such should be avoided because no one deserves to be a victim of political violence.
Mr. Cheembe has since encouraged President Hichilema to guarantee support and protection of community members whether those in the opposition or the ruling party.
There has been an outcry among some PF members that their lives are in danger due to continued attacks by those in the UPND, and have called for the protection from the state.
