A Man of Mushindamo district has been arrested for allegedly shooting his wife to death after a marital dispute.

The incident happened on Friday around 20: 30 hours at Isowa village of Mushidamo District.

North Western Province deputy Commissioner of Police Fred Mulenga said Marcerina Muzhinga 23, a Congolese national was shot by her husband, Andrew Mutenta 52 using a short gun after a quarrel over goats that grazed his maize field.

Dr. Mulenga explained in an interview that Mr. Mutenta got furious after goats belonging to his wife’s uncle grazed his maize field, thereby triggering a fight between the couple.

“I am informed that the goats belonging to the Uncle of the now deceased grazed Mr. Mutenta’s maize, this got him upset to an extent of shooting his wife in the back after a confrontation,” he said.

Dr. Mulenga said Muzhinga sustained multiple punctures on her back and multiple bruises on the face and that her body was found in a semi decomposed state.

He said the family was advised to bury the body in a shallow grave awaiting exhumation for further investigations as the area was not accessible by road while Mr. Mutenta had been arrested and docket opened.

Meanwhile a 10 year old girl of School Township in Kasempa has drowned in Mbulumunene River as she wanted to take a bath.

Dr. Mulenga said the girl while in the company of her friends went to wash her clothes after which she decided to take a bath when she met her fate.

“This happened when the girl finished washing her clothes and went into the water to bath but unfortunately went to the place which was a bit deep, she failed to swim and eventually drown,” he said.

He said the friend then rushed home to inform her relatives after efforts to call for help while at the scene proved futile.

Dr. Mulenga said the body was retrieved and taken to the police were a bid form was issued and the body deposited in Mukinge Mission Hospital mortuary awaiting burial as no foul play was suspected.

Dr. Mulenga said child growth was usually experimental, therefore it was important for parents to always take close oversight in the activities children do to avoid such a misfortune.
