About 12,410 structures have been targeted for spraying in the ongoing Indoor Residue Spray (IRS) in Manyinga District.

The exercise which commenced last week will be conducted in a period of about 30 days.

Manyinga District Health public health officer Oscar Mubanga disclosed that the exercise will be done in collaboration with other cooperating partners.

He further disclosed that the exercise will be carried out in both peri-urban and rural areas of the district.

“The exercise is ongoing and we have targeted to spray about 12,410 structures across the district in both peri-urban and rural areas,” said Mr. Mubanga.

He appealed to members of the public to corporate with spray operators that have been engaged to carry out the exercise.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mubanga has dispelled assertions that the chemicals being used in the exercise is irritative and causing bedbugs as well as cockroaches.

He said the assertion a falsehood and that it should not be taken as the truth as the chemicals are pre-tested, validated and that they do not cause any harm.

“It is unfortunate that some people are refusing to have their homes sprayed based on falsehood,” he said.

He has implored members of the public to support the distribution of insecticide treated mosquito nets as it is another activity aimed at malaria prevention.
