Minister of Labour and Social Security acknowledges concerns raised by Zambia Federation of Employers
Minister of Labour and Social Security Brenda Mwiika Tambatamba (MP) has acknowledged that the concerns raised by Zambia Federation of Employers to scale-up productivity in the country are justified and the Ministry under her watch will try to resolve them in the quickest manner possible.

Ms. Tambatamba mentioned that the low levels of productivity are not only of concern to ZFE but the Ministry’s concern too especially that the Ministry has the entire department dedicated to productivity.

“Being that there’s a whole department dedicated to productivity levels in the country, we appeal that the ZFE works hand in hand with the department to salvage the situation and to appease both the employer and employee”, she explained.

Madam Tambatamba reiterated that the main problem in the Labour Market is the lack of education on labour laws from both the employer and employee which the Ministry is in the for-front of solving in order to have a peaceful Labour Market.

She mentioned that all concerns that the ZFE has, shall be address at the Tripartite Consultative Labour Council in front of all sectors of the Labour Market and no one is left behind.
She has strongly urged the ZFE to make sure that their members work within the confines of the law in order to reduce on the already dilapidating Labour Market.

Meanwhile, speaking earlier Zambia Federation of Employers (ZFE) Acting President Myra Sakala Ngoma, has today paid a courtesy on Labour Minister Hon. Brenda Mwiika Tambatamba (MP).

ZFE Acting president who was accompanied by his executive committee, appealed that the Ministry can be a friend to the industry by taking an approach that could ensure that the industry has proper systems of man power development.

She added that among other things, Skills Development Levy should be used in the implementation of the National Policy on internship in a properly managed programme.

“We think that among other things, the Skills Development Levy should be used in the implementation of the National Policy on Internship and work based learning in a properly managed programme in which the Government Industry, training providers and the Labour Movement must be participants” she said.

Ms. Myra narrated that to some extent, the ministry needs to work in consultation with ZFE and the Labour Movement on a number of issues concerning organizations under the Ministry.

The Acting President said the federation is hopeful that the office of the Labour Commissioner will brief the Minister on the concerns that the Employers are facing and will come out with concrete solutions.
