Minister of Labour Brenda Tambatamba has urged Workers Compensation to give meaningful pension benefits to its members.
The Minister met Workers Compensation beneficiaries in Kasempa District to understand the challenges faced by these beneficiaries.
She reiterated that the Government of His Excellency President Hakainde Hichilema is putting mechanisms to undertake pension reforms in the country.
Ms. Tambatamba assured the pensioners that the new dawn Government and the President will ensure the pension system is transformed to meet the aspiration of the beneficiaries.
She disclosed that she was still studying the pension system before the reforms can be made.
Speaking earlier, Workers Compensation Commissioner and CEO Priscilla Bwembwa, assured the Minister that the her institution was already in the process of adjusting the monthly compensation benefits for its beneficiaries upwards. Ms. Bwembwa has disclosed that the institution through the Minister’s office will soon announce the revised benefits.
Meanwhile, the beneficiaries expressed the need for the scheme to increase the monthly benefits as the current one was very meagre to meet their needs.
