Two people in Solwezi district have died while four others are battling for their lives at Solwezi General Hospital after being bashed by an over speeding vehicle.
According to North-Western province deputy commissioner of police Dr. Fred Mulenga, the accident happened on Monday around 11 hours along the independence avenue opposite the Total Filling station and identified the victims as Felix Kayenda aged 35 who sustained a fractured leg and deep cut on the left leg, Webster Simusokwe aged 39, Brenda Miyambo and Dennis Muzya aged 25 and 29 respectively.
Dr. Mulenga disclosed that involved was Obby Mwiinga aged 44 of Kaloko compound in Ndola who whilst driving a Mitsubishi canter registration number ABV 239 lost control due to excessive speed.
He explained that the motor vehicle went off the road to the left side where it hit six pediatricians who where walking off the Road.
“And out of six victims, two died on the spot, a woman believed to be in her 30s and her child also believed to be 8 months old after sustaining multiple cuts,” he said.
He said all the surviving casualties are admitted to Solwezi General Hospital and the two dead bodies are deposited in Solwezi General Mortuary.
“And the driver has since been charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving and he is detained in custody,” said Dr Mulenga.
