The Ministry of Health says it is investigating a case of suspected food poisoning among people who drunk a traditional drink commonly known as Munkoyo at a wedding ceremony in Lusaka’s Nampundwe area in which one person died.

Health Minister Silvia Masebo said five people were admitted to the University Teaching Hospital while one person died in transit to the UTH.

Ms. Masebo said in a statement yesterday that two others where receiving treatment at Nampundwe healthcare facility while another 32 were treated in the Out-Patients Department at Nampundwe healthcare facility.

“We are investigating suspected food poisoning among people who drunk Munkoyo at a wedding ceremony in Nampundwe. Five persons are admitted to the University Teaching Hospital and two at Nampundwe healthcare facility,” she said.

Ms. Masebo further said the ministry received and managed 219 pupils and three teachers from Buyantanshi Technical School on Monday this week at Nchanga North General Hospital following a suspected gassing incidence in the school.

She said four pupils were admitted for observation as well as to manage their underlying conditions.
