President Hakainde Hichilema’s move to merge the Ministry of Higher Education with the Ministry of General Education is a wrong, Patriots for Economic Progress (PEP) has charged.

PEP president Sean Tembo has explained that the combined ministry with over 60,000 employees will be too big to properly manage.

He said at the very beginning President Hichilema was advised to give himself at least 3 months to acquaint with the operations of Government before he makes any significant changes to Government structures.

“Before you abolish or create new ministries, you need to consult senior civil servants such as Permanent Secretaries and Directors. These people have been running Government for a long time and will explain to you why certain things are done the way they are done” Mr. Tembo has said.

Mr. Tembo has so far observed that the President has failed to demonstrate any management skills.
