The opposition Patriotic Front (PF) North-Western Province says the party has remained intact despite being defeated by the United Party for National Development (UPND) in last month’s general elections.
Provincial secretary Dennis Kanyakula charged in an interview that those that are leaving the party are not genuine PF members.
Mr. Kanyakula revealed that the PF members that are defecting to UPND are those that came from the Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) party in 2011.
“But genuine PF members, the true greens are still with us. But those you seeing ditching the former ruling party are those that came from MMD as earlier stated,” said Mr. Kanyakula.
He charged that those ditching PF do not respect party ideologies and the UPND will be accepting such members at their own peril.
He said it is a trend of some people to jump from one political party to another just for their convenience without contributing anything to grow the party.
“There is just eating and so even when they go to UPND I don’t think if they will be able to contribute anything,” he said.
And Mr. Kanyakula revealed that the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) is working with the petitions committee constituted by the central committee to look at parliamentary seats to be petitioned in the province.
He said the PEC is analyzing incidents which happened in all the 12 constituencies during the elections looking at the gravity of the incidences to establish seats which will have merits to petition.
He has congratulated the UPND for winning the just ended elections stating that politics is about development and not a mere struggle for power.
