A Zambia Police Officer in Kasama has been sentence to 12 months imprisonment with hard labour for corrupt practices involving bribery. Arnold Mutunda, 34, a Police Officer based at Kasama Police Station was on Friday last week sentenced to 12 months imprisonment by the Kasama Magistrate’s Court sentenced after being found guilty on two counts of corrupt practices by a public officer contrary to section 19 (1) of the Anti-Corruption Act number 3 of 2012.
According to a statement issued yesterday by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) spokesperson Queen Chibwe, Mr. Mutunda was arrested in February last year by the commission.
Details in the matter were that in count one; Mr. Mutunda corruptly solicited and received K3,500 cash gratification as an inducement or reward for him to facilitate the change of an offence in a named case
from Aggravated Robbery to Theft.
While in count two, Mr. Mutanda further on a different occasion corruptly solicited for a further K2,500 and received K2,000 cash gratification as an inducement or reward for him to facilitate the change of the offence in the same case from Aggravated Robbery to Theft.
The court found Mr. Mutunda guilty on both counts and sentenced him to six months imprisonment with hard labour on each of the counts to run consecutively with effect from the date of sentence. Mr. Mutenda will thus serve 12 months in prison with effect from Friday, August, 27 2021.
