President Hakainde Hichilema has held the highly anticipated press conference where he has categorically denied that his trip to the USA had anything to do with advancing gay/lesbian rights.
The head of state has set the facts straight by saying his agenda in the United States of America centred not on the much talked about lesbian issues, but on how Zambia can harness investment opportunities and partnerships to improve the welfare of the people.
He said being an elder in the Adventist church, all he did was attend a church service, sang his favourite song and that was it.
President Hichilema has since challenged those peddling falsehoods to exercise their democratic right of expression, but pleaded for them to be truthful.
President Hichilema assured during the press conference that his focus with his ‘lean entourage’ in history was to market the country to the outside world to restore the dignity and confidence, to once more make Zambia better as evidenced by various meetings held with development partners and foundations.
“We have no time to wage war with anyone, we want to develop the country” President Hichilema said with a call for patience among various stakeholders in order for the UPND to fulfil its developmental objectives, saying he understands the agitation especially among the youths.
And President Hichilema disclosed that among other progressive meetings he held was with the International Monetary fund (IMF) and the World Bank, all in an effort to restore integrity in the country’s financial sector.
He said the UPND government is committed to ensuring that Zambia gets back on its road to recovery, and assured that the soon to be presented national budget will highlight its plan to create employment for various sectors, such as teaching among others.
“It’s not a joke, am serious because we want to save money” he said with a serious warning to those that have been engaging in corrupt activities and depriving Zambians of a better life.
President Hichilema said people should not call it a witch hunt when efforts are being made to recover assets that were stolen from the Zambian people.
