President Hakainde Hichilema has been urged not to U-turn on his campaign promise to offer free education from primary to university.

Various stakeholders have expressed concern that the President did not give a clear policy direction on the matter when he officially opened parliament yesterday.

United Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia (UPPZ) president Charles Chanda has since asked the President to commit to his promise.

In an open letter to the Head of state to register his support over the UPND’S agenda for free education, Mr. Chanda said he equally shares the same aspirations for free education.

He says he understands the challenges government is facing, but has encouraged the head of state not to retract or edit the promise he gave.

Mr. Chanda has observed that it is possible to give Zambians free education if the emerald plan under the UPPZ is given attention.

“Give me an ear on emeralds, we can together deliver free education” he said.

He said all what is needed is to produce three tons per year and children can enjoy the free education just as Dr. Kaunda and UNIP gave, of which the likes of president Hichilema and himself have benefitted from.

Mr. Chanda said the current generation is owed this gesture and that government should not fail them.

“I am ready to help you deliver the promise you made to our young voters” Mr. Chanda offered.
