Farmers in Petauke district have welcomed Government’s position to remove all the current beneficiaries from the farmer input support programe (FISP) next year to welcome new entrants.

Agriculture minister Mtolo Phiri recently announced that no farmer
currently on the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) will be on the
list of beneficiaries starting next farming season.

Mr Phiri in a ministerial statement in Parliament said government would start FISP completely afresh and stated that the issuance of supplementary packs to farmers had been
suspended saying all farmers would receive six bags of fertiliser and
a 10Kg bag of maize seed in the 2021-2022 farming season.

But in an interview with New Zambia, Alliness Banda the Chairperson of Kamela multipurpose cooperative said the move is good because it will give opportunities to other to benefit as well.

Ms Banda who has been on the FISP programe from 2017 said the development will also create fairness and equality on the part of the farmers that have been on the waiting list for a long time.
