Newly elected Mayor of Solwezi Municipal Council Remmy Kalepa and twelve councilors who where duly elected in last month’s general election have taken oath of office.

This entails that the civic leaders have to start performing their civic duties in their various portfolios.

Mr. Kalepa and the Councilors took oath before Principle Resident Magistrate Davies Chibwili at Solwezi Civic Center.

And in his remarks, Magistrate Chibwili urged the civic leaders to acquaint themselves with the Local Government Act and all pieces of legislation that govern operations of local authorities to avoid conflict between themselves and council officers.

“And that is why today we are holding this small and short ceremony which, but cardinal as it opens doors for elected civic leaders to perform their functions,” said Magistrate Chibwili.

He further advised the Civic Leaders to execute their duties diligently and meet the expectations of the people in the area.

He said campaigns period is over and that people are now expectant to see service delivery.

Among the Councillors sworn in was: Loves Soneka of Kamalamba ward; Collins Chiwaya of Kazhiba ward; Alice Lubasi representing community members in Kifubwa ward and Adrian Nkolomba of Kimale ward. Others were: Bernard Kakinga for Kimasala ward; Olivia Katanga from Kivuku ward; Fickson Mwanaute representing Kyafukuma ward; Davy Mubiana of Kyalalankuba ward and Mutoshi Kakoma from Kyawama ward.

The Chief Resident Magistrate also swore in Kapelembe Manix of Sandangombe ward; Saviye Kayombo for Tumvwanganai ward while Councillor Alex Pupe retained his position as civic leader for Kapijimpanga ward.
