Zambian former beauty Queen, business developer, model trainer and cancer advocate Sphiwe Benasho has said there is need for more awareness on cancer.
Her call is in line with the cancer awareness month of October, which begins tomorrow 1st October.
The humanitarian multiple award-winner said this year’s cancer awareness theme
‘Together, all our actions matter’ demands that we are all involved especially in creating awareness.
“This year is a reminder of the enduring power of cooperation and collective action. When we choose to come together, we can achieve what we all wish for: a healthier, brighter world without cancer,” Benasho said.
“October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month which annually calls for campaigns to increase awareness of the disease and its impact on those affected by the disease in our community,” she said adding that breast cancer remains the second most common cancer among Zambian women, and that survival rates continue to decline due to late detection.
“More than 100 women diagnosed with invasive breast cancer are now a few to survive five or more years beyond diagnosis,” she said.
“Finding breast cancer early provides the best chance of surviving the disease.”
