THE Super League continues to be a source of great excitement and agony depending on which of the 18 elite teams you support in the land.
At the weekend, the Super League delivered yet again some interesting action and results leaving fans looking forward to the next match day.
Those who support Green Buffaloes are probably the happiest at the moment with the army side keeping their unbeaten run and most importantly opening up a six point lead at the summit.
Before we get ahead of ourselves, here are Sports Mail’s five talking points from the Super League.
1.Relief for Kaindu
Zanaco coach Kelvin Kaindu is a man under fire with the fans making it clear that they want to see the back of their former winger in form a sack.
His former teammate Lawrence Lubinda has publicly backed Kaindu to steady the ship at Sunset Stadium but it remains to be seen how the long the patience of the board can be stretched.
At the weekend, a 1 – 0 win over Kafue Celtic may have eased some pressure off Kaindu albeit the fans could have expected more looking that opposition they faced.
Regardless, the win was enough to see the Bankers move some places away from the relegation zone and it boosted their moral going into the Confederation Cup Group Stage play-offs at the weekend.
2.Nkana fans question Quicksliver’s tactics
Beston Chambeshi is probably the toughest man around, juggling jobs between the most demanding club in the land and the national is no easy thing because you are always under scrutiny.
A moment of defensive madness in the last 10 minutes of the game saw Nkana give up a 2 – 0 lead and draw 2 – all against Green Eagles.
Nkana had taken a lead after scoring two penalties in either half but Eagles staged a comeback in the 79th minute leaving Nkana fans wondering why the coach did not close the game in the last 10 minutes.
However, you have to give it to Green Eagles, their players showed some character and managed to remain level headed to get something out of the game despite going down so early in the game.
The draw was painful to Nkana fans as they failed to make it in the top four.
3.Godfrey Ngwenya Inspire Power
Midfielder Godfrey Ngwenya has continued to be inspirational to Power Dynamos and their quest to leave the relegation zone paid off at the weekend.
The former Kabwe Warriors midfielder was on the score sheet in their 3 – 2 win over Chambishi, a win that helped them leave the relegation zone for the first time this season.
Ngwenya has scored some important goals for Power this season and he is their leading scorer with six-goal, with Power lacking a clinical finisher, his form will come in handy as they look to move up the table.
4.Cagey Derby
The Ndola Derby between Zesco United and Forest Rangers created some serious media hype prior to the game but the match did not live to the full billing.
Fans were treated to a cagey affair with both teams not throwing caution to the win leading them to settle for a 1 – all draw at the end of the day.
The first half had few goal mouth chances with both keepers having something of a holiday until the advanced stages of the second half.
Both coaches simply cancelled out each other’s tactics and were somewhat satisfied walking away with a point.
5. Are Crocs running out of breath?
Until this weekend, Kafue Celtic were the best performing promoted side in the log but seem to be running out of breath if their recent run is anything to go by.
The Croc started their season winless in their first three games before going on an unbeaten run of five games which included a win against Zesco United, Buildcon and Kansanshi Dynamos.
However, they are yet to win a match in their last six games signaling signs that the team is being chocked at playing Super Division football.
Their loss against Zanaco was their fifth of the season, but the establishment at the club remain committed to their model of putting faith in younger players. How long can they go? Time will tell.
