Unknown people have tampered with a grave, by way of trying to exhume the Coffin of the body while 25 tombstones built on graves have been damaged at Kawiko graveyard in Mwinilunga district.

According to North western province commissioner of police Dr. Fred Mulenga, the grave which was tempered with was for a 103 year old man Shadrick Kangwala of Kabanda compound who was buried on Sunday.

He disclosed that police received a report of trespass on the burial site and malicious damage to property from the former District Commissioner for Mwinilunga Anolt Mapulanga to the effect that some unknown People went to Kawiko Cemetry and destroyed 25 Tomb Stones that were built on the Graves.

“Acting on the report, Police rushed to the Scene and Confirmed that 25 Tomb Stones had been destroyed and one Grave was tempered with by trying to exhume the body,” said Dr. Mulenga.

He revealed that the grave was found dug half way. He said the family members of late Kangwala were called and the family members verified and Confirmed that the Grave that was tempered with was for their relative and where later requested to fill the Soil on the same tempered Grave.

He has however indicated that the motives for destroying the tomb stones and tempering of the Grave by way of digging it halfway is not known.

Meanwhile, police in Solwezi have discovered a dumped stillborn baby at Kimiteto graveyard.

Dr. Mulenga disclosed that this occurred on Tuesday around 15 hours when Solwezi municipal council Funeral Superintendent Emeldah Choombe reported that there was a dumped dead body at the graveyard in one of the unused dug grave.

“Police visited the scene and found that it was a stillborn baby which was dumped in the unused dug, high cost grave site area,” he said.

He said the body has been buried while an inquiry file has been opened with investigations instituted.
