Energy expert Johnstone Chikwanda says the new administration has a huge and rare opportunity of being the administration which will actualise Zambia’s aspirations of being a significant energy surplus country and enter the export market at significant level.

Mr. Chikwanda has called upon the international consultant who has been working on the electricity cost of service study to expedite the work and submit the report.

He added that the report if adopted will inform, guide and mentor the tariff structures for Zambia.

He has since encouraged the new Administration to work tirelessly and ensure the remaining 600MW at Kafue Gorge Lower Power Plant is actualised and commissioned.

“I wish to encourage the new the administration to work tirelessly and ensure the remaining 600MW at Kafue lower power plant is actualised and commissioned,” Chikwanda said.

He stated that the new administration must also ensure the 2,400MW Batoka Gorge Power plant and Luapula River Hydropower Project are built.
