Police in Mushindamo have arrested the United Party for National Development (UPND) cadres and one Patriotic Front cadre after the two rival parties crashed.

According to North western province deputy commissioner of police Dr. Fred Mulenga, the incident happened on Tuesday around 15 hours  at St Dorothy in Kalilele ward and identified the suspects Francis Kakompe, Vincent Chunda and Philip Musha of UPND and Mark Muteba from PF.

Dr. Mulenga explained that the crash was necessitated when the UPND cadres followed PF cadres who were having their lunch at Fly Zone bar and restaurant after they were done with accreditation of their Political agents.

He disclosed that the cadres where armed with stones and sticks and that there was physical confrontation between the two rival parties.

“Acting on the report, Police booked out to the scene and found some cadres were armed with stones and in action. Upon seeing the Police, the cadres ran away but police managed to apprehend four suspects; three being UPND cadres namely; Francis Kakompe, Vincent Chenda and Philip Musha and 1 from PF being Mark Muteba,” said Dr. Mulenga.

He said the suspects have since been charged for conduct likely to cause the breach of peace contrary to section 178(f) cap 87 of the laws of Zambia and they are currently detained at St Dorothy Police Station.

He has since encouraged political players to maintain peace as they appeal to the voters and that violence will not be tolerated.
