A United Party for National Development (UPND) official in Mwinilunga, Jonathan Chinyimba has rubbished social media reports that some members of party where behind the destruction of 25 tombstones at Kawiku graveyard in Mwinilunga.
Mr. Chinyimba who is also Mwinilunga town council chairperson said the assertions are not just malicious, but meant to dent the image of the ruling party.
He said it is unfortunate that there are false rumours that UPND members are targeting former Inspector General of police Kakoma Kanganja’s family graves.
“As a party, we wish to distance ourselves from such inhuman activities,” said Mr. Chinyimba.
He said the party members in the district are law abiding and that they cannot involve themselves in such activities.
Mr. Chinyimba has challenged members of the public and security personnel to bring forth any UPND member who was found destroying the tombstones.
“I wish to challenge anyone with credible information regarding the matter to come forward and present the names of the UPND members who were involved in the activity if at all there are “he said.
He has advised anyone with issues with the Kanganja family to seek redress with them than involving the party.
Last week, 25 tombstones where destroyed while the body of 103 old man was almost exhumed by unknown people.
