The United Party for National Development ( UPND ) has scooped the Kalilele local government seat in Mushindamo district in polls which where held yesterday.
Despite the polls being characterised with voter apathy, the UPND candidate Gladys Kadhimoto managed to beat other three contenders after polling 729 votes.
Her closest rival of the Democratic Party Dyness Kabunda polled 202 while an independent candidate Patrick Mwewa polled 103 with Patriotic Front’s candidate Wamunyima Likando trailing behind with 51 votes only.
And Returning Officer Libombela Mulala declared Ms. Kashimoto as duly elected councilor for Kalilele ward at around 01 hours.
“I therefore do declare that the said Gladys Kashimoto to be this day duly elected as Member of the Mushindamo council for Kalilele ward, ‘said Mr. Mulala.
The by election was necessitated after the death of the UPND candidate Elizabeth Sachiwanu prior to the August 12 general election.
