The United Party for National Development (UPND) administration in North Western Province asserts that some members of the Khizela Royal Establishment are fighting the party by causing the confusion over the appointment of the Mufumbwe District Commissioner.
On Monday, some Mufumbwe residents locked the office of the District Commissioner after the appointment of Mr. Elijah Munyompe taking over from Mr. Patrick Kalelemba whose appointment was withdrawn.
UPND acting Provincial Chairperson Stafford Mulusa said despite consultations with chief Khizela on Mr. Munyompe’s appointment, some members of the royal establishment are up in arms with the party over the appointment.
“The royal establishment is fighting the party because this has never happened before, “said Mr. Mulusa.
He said Some people from within the royal establishment are the ones using the name of Chief Khizela to cause the confusion and fighting the decisions of the President.
He explained that the difference between the two camps are that the newly appointed DC has been with the party for a long time while the other one has not.
“And when the party structures complain, we give an ear to that in order to make sure that our party functionaries are also happy,” he said.
He said the party is happy with the appointment of Mr. Munyompe and that the structures are intact.
He said going forward, the party will do more consultations before an appointment is made in order to avoid confusion.
“Going forward we have put it straight that there should be more consultations before any appointment is made because this is what has caused all this,” he said.
