The inauguration, held at the plant, saw attendance from notable figures including Senior Chief Chiwala and Augustine Kasongo, a representative of Copperbelt Provincial Minister , Elisha Matambo.
In a speech read for him by Mr Kasongo, Mr Matambo emphasized the project’s economic significance, lauding it as a crucial driver for development of the Copperbelt.
“This investment by Chilanga Cement exemplifies the strong partnership between the public and private sectors, fostering job creation and sustainable growth,” he stated.
Chilanga Cement Board Chairman, Muna Hantuba, outlined the ambitious “Phoenix Project,” highlighting its transformative impact
since the plant’s establishment in 1969.
“Supported by the Huaxin Group, this upgrade will increase the plant’s capacity to 1 million tonnes of high-quality cement annually, enhancing efficiency and environmental standards,” Hantuba explained.
CEO Jianping Chai reiterated the company’s dedication to regional economic development, underlining the project’s role in job creation and industry support. Set for completion in eight months, the project promises to elevate product quality and integrate alternative energy resources.
The launch concluded with a strong commitment to safety and an injury-free project execution, marking a new chapter for Chilanga Cement and the region’s growth.
