North Western Water Supply and Sanitation Company (NWWSSCO) has with immediate effect commenced the rationing of water supply in selected parts of Solwezi.

The move follows the reduction of water production at its main plant in the mining town which has been attributed to low water levels in the Solwezi river which is the main source of raw water.

The main affected areas include; Magrade, Kandundu, Western part of Town Center, Industrial Area, Urban and Messengers respectively.

Other affected areas are college, river side, Zambia compound, kazomba, low density and fisheries.

NWWSSCO public relations officer Barbra Kalunga revealed that the water supply has been reduced by 50 percent .

“So, what we have decided is to ration the supply to affected areas so our customers in the affected areas are able to at least receive the water for some hours in a particular day,” said Mrs. Kalunga.

She has however disclosed that the other side of the town has continued receiving normal water supply.

She has appealed to customers in the affected areas to remain calm as situation will soon come to an end with the onset of the rain season.

“Let them be calm because very soon the water level will go up due to the onset of the rain season,” she said.
