ZAMBIA needs a credible opposition that will add value to the economic development of the country, the National Democratic Congress (NDC)president Saboi Imboela has said.
Ms. Imboela said if the political bar will be raised high by President Hakainde Hichilema, judging from his positive sentiments on various aspects of the economy, it would require a viable opposition to offer
sound checks and balances to the UPND administration.

“The political tone being set by President Hichilema must be reciprocated by the opposition political parties in Zambia to offer credible checks and balances on merit, as that is critical for the growth of our democracy and national development,” she said in a statement shortly after a caucus meeting with top leadership of the NDC.

Ms. Imboela said the opposition cannot afford to be armchair critiques as that might negate the positive trajectory the country may or will be moving on. She said NDC would in the next five years commit to supporting national growth and sustainable economic development and further provide alternative leadership where those in power will be lacking.
Ms. Imboela further attributed the underdevelopment the country had suffered over the years to the nonexistence of credible opposition in Zambia.
She said where President Hichilema will score, NDC would celebrate because Zambians will stand to benefit and where he will fail to score the NDC would provide the desired critique for the greater good of the country.

Ms. Imboela was confident that the NDC would demonstrate true patriotism as the next alternative leadership for Zambia. “We are excited to be part of this political dispensation and our time is now to demonstrate to the people of Zambia that we are ready to serve our people by providing alternative leadership,” she said.

Ms. Imboela said the NDC had since made appointments to brace itself for the job ahead. And Ms. Imboela announced that Muliyunda Lilembalemba had been appointed as NDC spokesperson and he would further announce small changes that had been made to the Lusaka province executive.
