ZANACO DROP TO CONFED CUP
ZANACO’s Moses Phiri in action

ZANACO have been dumped out of the Champions League after their 2-1 win against Sudanese side Al – Merrikh was not enough to see them overturn a 3-0 defeat suffered in Cairo.

Prior to the game, Zanaco needed to win this match with a four goals margin but that did not happen when they hosted the Sudanese at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.

Emmanuel Manda and Abraham Siankombo scored for Zanaco but that counted for nothing as they eventually went on to lose 4-2 on Aggregate.

the Bankers kicked off to a slow start and in the 13th they conceded an Ejomariegwe Omayarue sho who benefited from Kelvin Kapumbu’s mistake.

Seven minutes later, Zanaco levelled matters through Emmanuel Manda who had replaced Peter Kalota before grabbing the equalizer with his first touch in the 20th minute.

Zanaco almost went ahead a minute before the break when Erick Owusu, with only a keeper to beat directed his shot to the keepers.

Owusu again came close to finding the back of the net five minutes into the second half but his shot went wide.

The Bankers finally got the lead in the 84th minute Abraham Siankombo scored the winner which was not enough to send them through to the next round as they dropped into the Confederations Cup.
