THE Zambia Correctional Service (ZCS) says it will soon discard the branding of inmates clothing as ‘prisoner’ in a view to restore human dignity due to the negative tag.
ZCS Commissioner General Fredrick Chilukutu noted that the rebranding of inmates clothing will assist a full transformation from prisons to corrections hence the branding to be ‘inmate’ and not ‘prisoner’.
Mr. Chilukutu further encouraged inmates to prove to society that they had reformed once discharged by utilization of skills learned from correctional centers.
Mr. Chilukutu said recently when he met inmates at Mpima Remand Correctional Center in Kabwe.
“Plans are underway to discard the branding of inmates clothing as ‘prisoner’ to that of inmates in a view to restore human dignity due to the negative tag,” he said.
And Mr. Chilukutu called on ZCS Officers to help inmates find their value as human beings like any other.
Mr. Chilukutu said officers should feed inmates well and ensure decency and be a shining example in Correctional management.
He was speaking at Kitumba Correctional Farm in Mumbwa District.
The Commissioner General has since expressed happiness at the high productivity in agriculture at the facility.
The farm is one of the leading farms for the Correctional Service in agriculture and boasts of securing over 1000 bags by 50kg of maize for Maximum Security and Correctional Center in Kabwe.
While the farm currently holds over 10, 000 bags in store, after sales of sunflower, soya beans and now positioning itself in piggery and goat farming, Mr Chilukutu has urged Kitumba to take advantage of the center pivots installed at the farm to further add value to the production.
Mr. Chilukutu was currently on a tour of Correctional Centers following his appointment as Commissioner General on September 1, 2021.
