Newly elected Member of Parliament for Solwezi West (Kalumbila) Nicholas Mukumbi has disclosed that his first priority as parliamentarian is to sit with the local authority and look at the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) for purposes of developing the area. Mr. Mukumbi who is immediate past Solwezi mayor says this is because he wants to attend to development in a more organised manner. He states that he does not want to attach politics in issues of development as it may derail the much needed development. He further added that he is aware that the IDP for Kalumbila has been concluded and this will be his starting point. “The IDP will definitely guide us, and for me that will be the beginning point in terms of bringing development closer to the people,” he said. Mr. Mukumbi also mentioned that there is need to move in quickly in Manyama and Kisasa settlements and realign the building structures before the two areas become shanty compounds because he believes that realigning of the two settlements will help in taking essential services such water and electricity without challenges. “For now, it is very difficult to take such commodities to the two areas because the structures have been built haphazardly,” he said. He also indicated that he will work closely with all Ward Development Committees in identifying needy areas in all the twelve wards. “Am not the panacea of development, so I will be engaging all stakeholders so that together we develop the area,” he said. He has thanked the people of Kalumbila for giving him the mandate to represent them. “And I can assure them the decision they have made is right one and I will not disappoint them,” he assured.
