A traditional leader in Kalumbila district has appealed to youths and women to start forming cooperatives to enable them access the empowerment funds in line with the pronouncements being made by government.
Chief Matebo said in an interview that youths and women should start positioning themselves by forming cooperatives and registering companies so that they access the empowerment funds to be disbursed by government.
He revealed that he is ready to provide land to women and youths who want to venture in various businesses especially agriculture once they access the empowerment funds.
“Already, empowerment funds for both youths and women have been decentralized to councils, so this is the opportunity for the youths as well as women,” said the traditional leader.
He mentioned that the creation of the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises by the UPND administration is a step in the right direction in supporting the growth of the small and medium enterprises.
“And on the creation of this ministry, the new dawn administration deserves commendation for remaining resolute in addressing the plight of women and the youth in the country through the various empowerment initiatives,” he said.
The traditional leader has also applauded government for the timely release of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
He said the funds will not only bring development closer to the people but also provide essential services and reduce youth unemployment.
“My only appeal is to the leadership at Kalumbila council to prudently utilize the CDF funds so that people see the benefits of it,” he said.
