Heavy rains have left a trail of destruction in Kasempa’s Dengwe area.
The rains which where charecterised by strong wind and hail stones engulfed the area on Thursday afternoon and left about five families homeless while a number of maize fields where destroyed.
Kasempa Town Council chairperson Brian Kakonkanya confirmed the sad development in an interview.
Mr. Kakonkanya said the five houses that had their roofs blown off completely left the affected families with no where to lay their heads.
“Yes, I can confirm that we experienced a heavy downpour in Dengwe area where five families have been left homeless after their houses had the roofs blown, “said Mr. Kakonkanya.
Mr. Kakonkanya did not indicate the exact size of maize fields which have been destroyed.
“On the number of hectares affected, I cant give the exact figure, otherwise, most maize fields have been destroyed by the rains,” he said.
He has appealed to the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit to come in quickly and help the affected families.
He said what is needed immediately is shelter and food stuffs for the families.`
“I am already in touch with the unit and I’m hopeful that something will be done for our people,” he said.
