GRADE 12 pupils at Kanyama Secondary School in Mwinilunga district yesterday ran amok and burnt a grass fence to one of the teacher’s house in protest against tough exams.
According to police, the learners who were writing their final exams complained that the invigilators refused to show them answers for the mathematics paper one and so they decided to vent their frustration by blocking the road to the school and also burnt the grass fence at Mr. Moono’s house one of the teachers.
North Western Province Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr. Fred Mulenga DCP said the incident occurred on Thursday around 10:00 hours at Kanyama Secondary School Mwinilunga District.
Dr. Mulenga explained in a statement that the grade 12 pupils were writing math paper one final exams, and they requested that the invigilators show them the answers but they refused hence they resorted to riotous behavior after they finished writing.
“Mwinilunga police station is in receipt of a report of riotous behavior in which Felix Kapaipai Felix 57, the Head Teacher at Kanyama Secondary School reported that the grade 12 pupils at his school rioted after the invigilators refused to show them answers during the exams(Examination Malpractice) when they were writing Mathematics Paper one,” he said.
Dr. Mulenga said no arrest had been made but that pupils had been cautioned.
He said the situation was quiet at the moment and that the police were on the ground to maintain law and order.
Dr. Mulenga directed all officers in charge to ensure order prevailed and would diligently monitor to ensure malpractice was not condoned.
He commended the school authorities for rejecting cheating during exams and appealed to other schools to emulate this school’s stance.
