LACK OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION IS HINDERING THE COUNTRY FROM ACHIEVING ITS HERD IMMUNITY

Ministry of Health Epidemiologist and National expanded programme immunization senior Manager Dr. Francis Mwansa has disclosed that lack of information, advocacy, communication and social mobilisation are some of the obstacles that are hindering the country from achieving it’s herd immunity.

Speaking during the Media science Cafe-MESICA engagement meeting on a topical discussion beating ,hesitancy and getting to herd immunity, Dr. Mwansa said reports on the ground indicate that people have been refusing taking the Sinopharm vaccines citing lack of information of the vaccines and it’s efficacy.

He stated that Sinopharm vaccines have only so far been limited to Lusaka and Kitwe due to the limited numbers that have been brought in the country.

Dr. Mwansa has also disclosed that a total of 10,413 pregnant women have so far taken COVID-19 vaccines bringing the total to 859,618 administered broken down by dose type as follows 356,080 dose 1 and 503,538 fully vaccinated of which 313,619 representing 62% are single dose of J &J vaccinations.
